Focus Areas

The Prevention Hub is taking what we know about the prevention of anxiety and depression and putting it into practice in settings where interventions can provide the greatest impact and reach. Our three areas of focus are:

1. Using the workplace as a setting to reduce mental ill-health;

2. Strengthening prevention for youth, children and families; and

3. Preventing depression and anxiety in medical healthcare settings.

Workplaces

Workplaces are a setting with great potential to deliver preventive strategies for anxiety and depression to a large proportion of the Australian population, and the key to unlocking this potential on such a large scale is through the delivery of online programs.

Youth, Children and Families

Anxiety and depression often emerge during childhood and adolescence. Educators and parents/carers of young people are therefore well placed to contribute to the prevention of these conditions.

Medical and Healthcare

Healthcare settings can play a key role in the prevention of anxiety and depression. Most Australians visit their GP or other healthcare practitioner at least once per year. In addition, people who study and work in healthcare settings experience particular stressors that can lead to mental ill-health. Healthcare provides a unique opportunity to direct preventive strategies for mental ill-health to people who may need support.
